Chicago, IL—August 13, 2025—A new infographic identifies United States and global statistics regarding artificial intelligence (AI) executive titles and roles. The new infographic from the AI Leaders Council quantifies this fast growing category, and will be updated frequently to measure and understand trends.
AI executives are key technology leaders in companies and organizations of all sizes, across all industries, in all countries and continents. In small and medium-size businesses (SMB), top AI roles are often CHief Information Officers (CIOs) or Chief Technology Officers (CTOs). In large or enterprise organizations, AI roles are often managed by AI Directors that report to CIOs or CTOs. However, in this early evolution of AI, various combined titles are common including variations that might include CTO/AI/CIO/CAIO/Data. Less common, but growing is the the C-suite title of Chief AI Officer (CAIO).
The 2025 infographic identifies more 71,000 AI executive titles worldwide, with nearly half or 30,000 in the United States. The most common AI title is AI Director that accounts for 34,000 titles worldwide, and 16,000 of titles in the U.S. The infographic also identifies CTOs and CIOs titles that are much larger counts, but often have AI responsibilities.
